It's Time for Me to Go (Song Poem)
Outside the sun is rising on a cold and dreary day.
Beside me you're still sleeping -- I hope you stay that way.
There'll be hurt in your eyes when you finally come to know
That I am just a drifter, and It's time for me to go.
I get up and dress quietly, sorting clothes from near the door
And with shoes in hand I tiptoe softly 'cross the floor.
You believed each line I used on you, 'though why I've never know
If I stayed I'd only hurt you more, so It's time for me to go.
To stay would only hurt you more when I finally had to leave
You loved me oh so tenderly -- you don't need all that grief.
I wish I'd never met you, and I didn't want to stay
I took all you offered me and I wish there was a way
That I could be the kind of man who's never let you go
But you don't need a drifter, and It's time for me to go.
